Wise words about the use of power
Thursday, 20 September 2012
I was sent this quote attributed to Edmund Burke (1729-1797) a day or so ago. There's real wisdom in these words and they help to understand the decisions like carbon tax, alliance with the Greens/Wilkie/Windsor/Oakshott etc. The Thomson decision becomes clear, the AWU coverup - it's all about the notion described by Edmund Burke - power for power's sake. And don't get me started on ringing up media companies!!!
Those who have been once intoxicated with power, and have derived any kind of emolument from it, even though but for one year, never can willingly abandon it. They may be distressed in the midst of all their power; but they will never look to anything but power for their relief.
