- NEW South Wales and Victorian Police are raiding the Bateau Bay home of embattled MP Craig Thomson.
A NSW police spokeswoman confirmed to The Australian a search warrant for the former Labor MP’s Central Coast home had been issued this morning and detectives from Strike Force Carnarvon and Operation Vespine were currently at the premises.
"The search warrant relates to an investigation by Operation Vespine which is part of the Victorian Police fraud and extortion squad,” the spokeswoman said.
A Victorian Police spokeswoman told The Australian: “Fraud and extortion squad detectives would like to thank NSW Police from Strike Force Carnarvon for their ongoing assistance”.
“As the investigation is still ongoing we are unable to make any further comment.”
Fair Work Australia (FWA) last year launched civil action against Mr Thomson alleging he breached workplace laws 37 times and misused almost $500,000 when he was national secretary of the HSU from 2002 to 2007.
He faces fines of up to $450,000 if the court finds, among other things, that he spent thousands of dollars of union funds on prostitutes.
Mr Thomson has maintained his innocence and says the case won't go anywhere.
