Reader Stephen's initiative - Transparency International
Monday, 22 October 2012
I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd endorse a report to a foreign agency about my own nation, particularly a report about high level corruption. I can, however, see Stephen's logic.
You are the best and most widely experienced team of researchers about these matters - what's your opinion of Transparency International? Any reservations or plaudits?
Michael
Dear Michael
This is a good suggestion and a very important for the next stage of this expose. Following the success ALP had with the Gillard misogyny speech overseas there should be a move to secure international exposure regarding this scandal (I know you tried this before and it did not come off). The responses from overseas to Gillard’s speech forced the press here to review its initial perception as to the impact they expected it to domestically from negative to being positive for Gillard and the ALP.
The anti corruption agencies are also another avenue. It would be extremely embarrassing if Transparency International was to review Australia’s ranking with a view to a down grade because of this. It would be the quickest way to get the Australian press and authorities moving. We need people from overseas to call their friends here about the AWU and other union scandals – similar to the response to Gillard on Youtube. It would also take advantage of Gillard’s newly found international fame.
Thanks and best regards
Stephen
