FOI re the PM's car fines
Sunday, 06 January 2013
The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet is apparently playing hardball, refusing to tell you and me who was driving the Prime Minister's car on the 8 occassions in 6 months that the vehicle was pinged for traffic offences (presumably camera detected offences, which can be expiated by the payment of a higher fine levied against a body corporate or similar in lieu of an identified natural person, that higher cost premium delivers the benefit of no demerit point allocation against the driver).
Every poor bugger who's copped it sweet and paid up for inattention will be fuming at this report today. I am. I was out fishing with my sister today and my nephew Tim, a fully fledged butcher, was pulled up while driving his girlfriend to work. My sister Kath got the panicky phone call from Tim who needed a lift from whoop whoop where he'd been pulled over. He'd been done for a licence suspension, following a toll related fine that he reckons was paid - who knows who's stuffed up in his case. Bottom line is Tim the butcher can't drive, his car is parked on the side of a road and he's coming to police attention because his toll clicker stuffed up.
So. Gillard won't say who was driving the car that she is personally responsible for on those 8 times in 6 months. Her smart-arse department says "FOI it if you want to know". Here's one you can do for practice. It's a skill that you'll love developing. The art of the FOI application. 2 can play the smart-arse McTernan game. Actually, tens of thousands can play it.
Hop to it. Work out how to do the FOI application. You are entitled to know. Get cracking. I'll post your comments on how to. I won't spoon feed, you don't need it. You'll get a result too - enforce your rights.
I smell a rat on this Gillard car issue. 8 offences in 6 months? Some one is purloining the micturate.
