Geert Wilders tour - Note to the ABC and to any radio or TV hosts who would like to speak with a great interview subject
Thursday, 21 February 2013
Rosie is a retired teacher, a grandmother who's happily married and lives in suburban Melbourne.
She went to the Geert Wilders speech the other night. Rosie wrote to me to say thanks to the Victoria P0lice who protected the crowd from the ugly protests that seem to follow Geert Wilders.
Rosie told me that nothing Wilders said was in any way offensive or likely to incite hatred or vilification. Rather it's the pro-Islamist protesters who bring violence - the tragedy is that governments seem happy to attack the peaceful pro-speech person to mollify and tacitly encourage the violent extremists.
I'd defy anyone to see anything remotely ugly or prejudiced about Rosie's search for understanding. That's why she went to hear Geert Wilders and Rosie liked what she heard.
Me too. My apologies for this recording cutting out at 6.20 - we did it twice, it happened at the same point each time and I couldn't put Rosie through it again! If you're a radio station or a TV program I'd suggest that a voice like Rosie's might bring a bit of balance to the smarty pants voices that have extra-sensory perceptions of Geert Wilders hate messages and his appeal to the uneducated redneckery.
