Jeff of FNQ has put this year's illegal boat arrivals into a spreadsheet
Saturday, 20 April 2013
Here's Jeff's note and some screen grabs of his spreadsheet - I've included the spreadsheet itself at the bottom of this post, along with another spreadsheet showing the contracts the Department of Immigration had afoot during 2012.
Given the number of arrivals this year I thought I’d put them all on a spread sheet.
The details are from both Clare’s and Customs media unit’s media releases.
Unfortunately some releases give POB whilst others differentiate passengers and crew so haven’t been able to do a total of “clients”.
Apart from yourselves and some reports in The Australian and the occasional report on ABC on-line news the media seem to disregard the media releases.
When you see the number of arrivals listed like this in brings into perspective how hopeless our current border protection is.
Hopefully it will be of some use to you.
Cheers
Jeff of FNQ
No wonder we cannot live within our means. The boat arrivals trigger a range of expensive responses in a manner where no expense is spared. If you want to argue the toss on that point, read the following summary of contracts you the taxpayer have with the following entities. Not all of the spending in the contractor spreadsheet relates directly to illegal boat arrivals, but clearly a large proportion of the spend does. No boats, much reduced expense.
