Ben Fordham of 2GB had Chris McArdle on his show this afternoon.

McArdle admitted that Craig Thomson was not charged over an ice cream.   Google it, the media was all over it when he made the false claim

Michael Rowland the ABC's Breakfast TV host (who has had his own problems with identity theft) tweeted this

Michael rowland ice cream

Rowland's tweet puts it in perspective - McArdle didn't make the ice cream charge as Chris McArdle, village idiot.  He made it as Chris McArdle Officer of the Court, Lawyer, official legal representative for accused man Craig Thomson.

And he made the false claim to bring discredit on the police who have charged Thomson.

Just reverse it for a moment.  Imagine if John Tyquin, Detective Sergeant had fronted the cameras and said, "Craig's been having huge nights on the turps.   He's put the union's plastic down in brothels all over the joint, he's pullin' money out of ATMs as fast as they could count it and the list of pornos in the hotels would do Hugh Hefner proud!"

Yet McArdle can impugn the reputation of the police, mislead the public, deliver some grist for pro-Labor media mill and get away with it.

Does that sound right to you?
