The ABC did not receive a press release about the Slater and Gordon raid by Victoria Police so it's unable to confirm the story. Confirming stories by dint of hard work and enquiry is what journalists used to do.

Yesterday our reader P sent this note to the ABC.
Dear Sir,
As an avid reader of ABC online news, I am disappointed that there has not been any coverage of the Victoria Police raid on Melbourne's law firm Slater and Gordon. I am led to believe the raid is associated with documents handled by the firm and in particular Ms Julia Gillard relating to the AWU Workers Reform Association slush fund.
When will the ABC report on this very important and newsworthy matter. It's not every day that a law firm which once employed the Prime Minister is raided.
Thank you
P
That news, as you know, was on the front page of Monday's The Australian. The Age's Mark Baker was able to confirm the story and add to it with an important piece in the Fairfax press yesterday.
I'm told the ABC is the largest single employer of journalists in Australia. It has staff dedicated to various rounds - national affairs, state affairs, medical, police etc - and to various media platforms, online, radio, television.
Hedley Thomas was able to confirm the story. Mark Baker of The Age confirmed it.
So where is our ABC in reporting on this important issue regarding our current Prime Minister who is, at present, standing for reelection?
Here's the ABC's response.

Subject: RE: Victoria Police Raid on Slater and Gordon
Dear Mr P
Thank you for your email.
The ABC was aware that an alleged raid had occurred. However, we were unable to confirm it had happened and therefore, we did not report it.
Kind regards

Unable to confirm? Being unable to confirm that Tony Abbott may have punched a wall when he was at university hasn't been to big an impediment to the wall-punch story. Nor was the absence of confirmation about Mal Brough's alleged menus any great drag on the ABC presenting the story.
But a raid on Ms Gillard's old law offices, seeking her files, by police? Sorry, can't help you.
