As President Yudhoyono of Indonesia noted, Regional Rudd only rang him yesterday about the Regional PNG deal. The Rudd spin doctor confirms the President's version is "not incorrect". He'll be thrilled.

Mr Rudd is the Regional Guy on getting the issues of people-smugglers and the movement of refugees solved, not like Isolationist Abbott.

15 July, 2013, Kevin Rudd in Port Moresby.

“PNG is an important part of an effective regional response,” Mr Rudd said.

In March, 2011 as Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd co-chaired the Bali Regional Conference - the whole of which underpinned the importance Mr Rudd placed on regional co-operation.

FOURTH BALI REGIONAL MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE

ON PEOPLE SMUGGLING, TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS

AND RELATED TRANSNATIONAL CRIME

BALI, INDONESIA, 29-30 MARCH 2011

CO-CHAIRS' STATEMENT

On 19 July, 2013 Kevin Rudd signed the Arrangement with PNG in Brisbane and said this:

These arrangements are contained within the Regional Resettlement Arrangement signed by myself and the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea just now.

So work together man The Rudd (who differentiates himself from the Evil Abbott by being a Regional Guy not a go-it-alone isolationist) would have told the President of Indonesia before he told the press about the PNG/Australia "Regional" deal right?

Well he must have told him on the day surely?

Well the next day?  Or the next? No...... Or the next, or the next or the next, or the next?

Well no.   Regional Rudd forgot.

Until yesterday.

After the Indonesian Opposition Party went public with its protests about the Rudd Arrogance and lack of consultation.   Mr Rudd finally rang President Yudhoyono to tell him that Regional Arrangements will be at the heart of everything his government does and he did it just on one week after the razzle dazzle $500M press conference and $2M advertising campaign.   Lucky The Rudd is not like that Abbott who only says things but doesn't mean them.

Rudd rang the President of Indonesia yesterday.   Didn't occur to him because it's not like Indonesia's involved, you know, like say as the place affected by Australian sugar attracting people.

Listen to how the Rudd spin-doctors try to BS their way out of trouble in this ABC report from ABC News Online this morning:

Separately, Indonesian politicians vented their anger about Australia's lack of consultation over the PNG policy.

A leading Indonesian opposition politician said fellow MPs had complained that Mr Rudd did not consult with Jakarta before announcing the deal to resettle asylum seekers in Papua New Guinea, despite there being serious implications for Indonesia.

Tantowi Yahya, a member of Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Commission, said most of the group's 35 members had complained about Indonesia not being consulted on Australia's policy shift.

A spokeswoman for Mr Rudd said the PM spoke with Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono about the PNG deal this week.

Magnificent spin there that would do Warnie's ball of the century justice.      Rudd spoke with the President this week hey?   Like the part of this week known as yesterday, nearly one "this week" after the announcement.

But after President Yudhoyono's office went public with the timing of the call - yesterday - and the content of it from the President's perspective - ie stressing the importance of regional co-operation - Mr Rudd's staff resoundingly endorsed the President's version of events.

According to a spokesman for Mr Yudhoyono, the president told Mr Rudd that people smuggling was not just one country’s problem and stressed the importance of regional co-operation.

Mr Rudd's spokeswoman confirmed that the conversation took place and the president's version of it was "not incorrect".

However, Mr Tantowi maintains that Mr Rudd only called the president after "we made some noise".

"Several government officials and politicians like myself protested and then your government responded by calling the president," he said.

Passion fingers.   No wonder Indonesia smiles at his face and shakes its head when he leaves.   Rudd seriously does not give a stuff.
