UPDATED
I've been told that this post was a little obscure - let me explain what I mean.
Adelaide University recently announced its recognition of Julia Gillard's life achievements by appointing her as an Honorary Professor of the University. The university sees her as a role model for young people who might look up to her and emulate her behaviours so as to achieve the sort of life success that the University accords Ms Gillard.
Ms Gillard and others are persons of interest in a criminal investigation by Victoria Police. When one of the co-offenders in the frauds decided to unburden himself and made sworn statements to police about the crimes, Ms Gillard responded with a direct attack on her hitherto uncriticised friend.
Ms Gillard responded to questions from the press about the allegations made by Ralph Blewitt (that Ms Gillard was not present with him to witness him signing, sealing and delivering a Deed that purported to record his donation of his Powers to purchase real property to his boss and her lover as his Attorney). But rather than say for example, "I was with him on level 4 of our building with my secretary as the file noted , and I immediately caused 4 copies of the document to be made and certified" Ms Gillard did not respond to the substantive allegations. Rather she hooked in to her old friend in a vicious attack on the person with no reference to the fundamental allegations.
Today some students of Adelaide University are accused by one of their number of cheating in an examination.
Adopting the Gillard as role model response to potentially career destroying dramas you'd expect the ad hominen attacks on the whistleblower to commence forthwith.
ENDS.
If Adelaide University fails to accept genuine defences to cheating - put with passion - then it only has itself to blame when its student body graduates unequipped for the real world.
Reliance on the truth and facts alone is the sort of behaviour the young and naive engage in. University of Adelaide's set of contemporary values now laud a different life approach personified in Ms Gillard.
When kids model do-it-because-I-can behaviours like those displayed in Gillard's life, the uni looks a bit silly honouring her and turfing them.
The ABC is all over this issue of rich advantaged kids allegedly caught acting corruptly. Listen to Professor Alastair Burt explain his high expectations and heavy consequences for students who fail to live up to them. Good word that - expectation, as in the train's expected at 1PM, or a Prime Minister is expected not to have concealed a criminal background.
Medical students allegedly cheated on Adelaide University exam about human reproductive health
Updated 1 hour 3 minutes ago
Alleged exam cheating by some fifth-year medical students is under investigation by the Board of Examiners at Adelaide University.
Students allegedly used shared iPads provided by the university in breach of a copyright notice, storing information about an examination for human reproductive health.
Dean of the Medical School Professor Alastair Burt said students on a previous rotation of the course screen-grabbed images of the exam and left them on the shared iPads for the next round of students to find.
Professor Burt said the investigation would be thorough.
"We will have a zero tolerance to cheating and plagiarism, but we do need to investigate this thoroughly and in a timely manner," he said.
Obstetrics and gynaecology senior lecturer Dr Paul Duggan urged that those students involved to come forward.
He said the exam had been irretrievably damaged and would have be sat again by all students.
Dr Duggan said consequences for students who did not come forward would be severe and include expulsion from the medical school.
