The ABC and SBS will shortly have some new directors on their boards

ABC and SBS board appointments

Under the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983 (ABC Act) and the Special Broadcasting Service Act 1991 (SBS Act), a merit-based selection process must be followed before the appointment of non-executive Directors to the ABC and SBS boards by the Governor-General. A Nomination Panel (the Panel) was established under the ABC Act and is responsible for conducting a selection process for each ABC and SBS board vacancy to assist the Minister for Communications (or the Prime Minister in the case of the Chairperson of the ABC Board) in identifying suitably qualified applicants for appointment by the Governor-General.

Advertisements have been placed by the Panel, inviting written applications by persons seeking to be appointed to the advertised positions. The closing date for applications is Monday 14 April 2014. The Panel must assess all applicants against the relevant selection criteria on the basis of merit. Following its assessment of the applicants, the Panel will produce a written report for the Minister for Communications on the outcome of the selection process. The report will contain a short-list of at least three applicants nominated for each vacancy. Further information about the merit-based appointment process for non-executive Directors to the ABC and SBS boards is available here.

Better get some extra printer toner if you're going to print out their stuff - the deadset masters of producing reams of paper have worked their magic on this process!
