Here is Trad the Tolerant holding the cover of the latest edition of the seditious Charlie Hebdo magazine - as featured on The Australian's front cover today.
I think those wily French cartoonists might have had a little trick up their sleeve for the crying prophet. It's just eery how much their cartoon looks like the work of Jonah Tokalau when turned upside down.
We took our upside down cover of The Australian to the streets of Rockhampton today.

The Bloomberg organisation reports on capital movements into and out of green schemes at its website Bloomberg New Energy Finance - it's just released its report for 2014.
It's hard to get excited about expensive greenie-schemes for dearer electricity here in the home of Australia's coal-export industry. Bloomberg's excited - but then its audience is people who want to get rich on the back of more expensive power for people - thus their breathless headline:
Surges in investment in offshore wind in Europe, and solar in China and the US, helped to drive the 2014 global clean energy total up 16% to $310bn
London and New York, 9 January – World clean energy investment rebounded strongly in 2014, boosted by demand for large-scale and rooftop solar photovoltaics on the back of its greatly improved competitiveness, and by the financing of a record $19.4bn of offshore wind projects.
Authoritative annual data, published today by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, show that global investment in clean energy was $310bn last year. This was up 16% from a revised $268.1bn in 2013, and more than five times the figure of $60.2bn attained a decade earlier, in 2004, albeit still 2% below the all-time record of $317.5bn reached in 2011 .
But the news is not all bad - here's the result for Australia after a dose of common sense last year:
In Australia, clean energy investment tumbled 35% to $3.7bn, the lowest since 2009, as wind and solar project developers delayed decisions while they awaited the government’s response to its Renewable Energy Target review.
Good to see the madness of Christine Milne's $10 billion bank and sundry other extravagances coming to a close.
This unspeakable attempt at justifying the Paris Islamist killings was written in Australia and published in Australia here. It's heading tells you all you need to know.
The scale and immediacy of the politicisation of the Charlie Hebdo incidents last week necessitates an exposition on the issue that would otherwise be undeserving.
People are killed everyday around the world in numbers and in circumstances that should put the events in France in perspective. The selective moral outrage displayed by some serves only to devalue the countless more lives lost every other day.
It seems some in Australia are arrogantly and irresponsibly heedless of the fact that provoking and insulting a people’s core beliefs is a matter that can only end in acrimony for everyone concerned. If that wasn’t enough, the biggest criminals of the world like Obama and Netanyahu are already seeking to exploit the events of last week for their predictable but nefarious purposes, despite the dust not settling and facts yet to be confirmed.
For these reasons, we would like to deliver clear messages to the politicians of Europe and to Muslims.
A Message to Europe's politicians
1. The scale and tenor of the political response to the Charlie Hebdo incident reinforces Europe’s desire to intensify its constant pressure on Muslims. In a manner unprecedented in recent times, European powers have responded with an outpouring expressly encouraged by the political class, including the largest demonstrations in recent times sanctioned by officialdom, suggesting a callous and calculated exploitation of events witnessed last week.
2. These demonstrations cannot be analysed in isolation to the openly Islamophobic protests currently taking place in Europe. Their form may be different, but both rely upon the same underlying narrative that positions Muslims as the problem.
3. The attacks on the Prophet Muhammad (saw) have absolutely nothing to do with “freedom”. The appeal to freedom is a hollow slogan invoked each time the West seeks to deprive the Muslims of the very “rights” espoused under these slogans. Have we forgotten the banning of the Islamic headscarf in France, its brutal and murderous military adventures overseas or its friendly relations with the world’s dictators, all justified through an appeal to liberal doctrine? These attacks have nothing to do with freedom, but everything to do with neo-colonialism – and specifically countering the Muslim desire to free themselves from the shackles of centuries of European colonialism.
4. The actions of Charlie Hebdo have been rightly criticised by many sane voices in Europe. Scores of people of faith and no faith, with the slightest concern for societal harmony, have expressed their disapproval of the deliberate insult and provocation of a people’s core beliefs, warning that such actions will generate responses that are undesirable to communal harmony.
5. European powers should realise that theirs are not the only people who regard certain beliefs as sacrosanct. Muslims, too, have red lines over which no compromise can be accepted. Ignoring this fact is ignorance at best and blind arrogance at worst.
A Message to Muslims
1. Muslims do not need to be lectured about the sanctity of human life. We especially do not need to be lectured by the greatest criminals of the modern age.
There are some that question the apparent hesitance to condemn attacks such as those carried out at Charlie Hebdo. But the fact is that this reluctance is a conscious or subconscious desire to resist a vile, racist and narcissistic worldview that highlights and humanises European life but dehumanises and makes invisible non-European life. Our refusal to succumb to the woeful moral ambivalence of the West should be a cause for celebration, not a cause for condemnation.
2. Over the last two centuries, European powers have established a violent dominance over Muslims that not long ago would have seemed impossible. They have further successfully imposed their culture throughout the Muslim world, encouraging Muslims away from their Islamic core and laying the foundations for future political, cultural, military and economic subservience. The magnitude of this domination is truly unprecedented, leaving Muslims politically incapable in the face of an aggressor driven by toxic hatred and a violent racism.
But these powers are still not satisfied, and aim for a yet more comprehensive dominance that would render Muslims permanently impotent. For this to occur requires that Islam’s key foundations be forever removed from the hearts of Muslims, ensuring that what remains is nothing more than a hollow imitation of its former, noble self.
3. The last element in this struggle is the Muslims’ belief in, and dedication to, Allah (swt) and the Prophet (saw). European and Western powers expect us to accept their freedoms as dearer than our Islam, giving Muslims only two options: accepting these freedoms as a base criteria for judgement, and thereby accepting their right to insult Allah (swt) and His Prophet (saw), or exposing ourselves to the wrath of the West’s political and military machines, at home or abroad. Just like the U.S. after 9/11, Europe is leaving no stone unturned in enforcing its secular agenda upon Muslims in the aftermath of recent events.
This perpetual and engrained motivation is aptly encapsulated in the eternal words of Allah (swt):
“And they will not cease fighting you until they turn you back from your Deen, if they can …” [Al-Baqarah 2:217]
4. The West’s unrelenting attacks on Islamic values are part of a long-standing struggle preceding the modern colonial era. The only difference today is that, unlike the past, Muslims find themselves exposed without political authority to defend their beliefs and interests. The establishment of a just Caliphate, with the true interests of all humanity at heart, is the only assured response to the unending crimes of European and Western powers harming both Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

Alan Jones has been vociferous in his criticism of many of the Newman LNP Government's decisions - or lack of them.
From next Monday Campbell Newman has a new opposition to deal with - Alan Jones.
This interview with Heather Brown will give you some insight into Alan's views about Newman and his Cabinet.
Alan will finish his show on 2GB at 9AM Sydney time - that's 8AM Queensland time during daylight saving. He'll then broadcast into 4BC from 8AM to 9AM each day for a fortnight taking talkback callers as well as interviewing politicians.
This is great news for Queensland and for 4BC. Congratulations to Fairfax Media for deploying Alan so quickly after the announcement of the Fairfax/Macquarie merger/acquisition.
Mumbrella quotes Fairfax radio's content direct Clarke Forbes as saying, “The Queensland election is shaping up to be a state of the nation issue with implications for the Abbott government, as well as Premier Campbell Newman. It’s fantastic to have such an experienced and skilled broadcaster as Alan Jones on 4BC for his expert commentary on what is likely to be one of the most intriguing and dramatic political battles of the year.”
4BC general manager Anthony Frangi said: “Alan is a familiar voice on 4BC and we look forward to having him back on air for this special two week program."
UPDATE
Reader Danny posed this question to me - I hope my answer explains how I feel about Alan's move.
Danny said: Sorry Michael. Do you really think Fairfax would rush Jones into the Qld election period unless they thought it would help their beloved Labor/ Greens? There is no way this would be happening if Fairfax thought Jones would be serving it up to Labor. When something like this happens at such short notice, there is always an agenda. Surprised you are in such rapture. (Agenda?)
I said: Danny - thanks for the comment, there's no way that Alan Jones going in to Brisbane is good news for Labor/Greens.
The Queenslad Parliament is the only unicameral parliament in Australia, that is there's no upper house to review government decisions. There are 89 seats in the single house and only 9 are held by Labor. That means there's been no limit/review on Newman's decisions.
John Howard learned the hard way that the exercise of untramelled power has electoral consequences if it's not managed with a deft hand. Rather than bringing dexterous fingers to the craft of government, Campbell Newman wears boxing gloves.
Alan will provide a conservative voice to temper the Newman proclivities. That has to be good for Queensland.
Michael
UPDATE 1.45pm
In answer to a couple of queries - no I'm not going back to 2GB, Macquarie or Fairfax radio.
I've recorded a quick audio editorial that explains why I feel the way I do - I have bad news on the computer front and can only put up the link rather than the AudioBoo application.

A "Labor Mate" sent me this note he received this morning - Labor gearing up for the NSW state election due in just over 2 months.
Hi,
We're now only 10 weeks out from the 2015 state election. And that means we need to know how much support we can count on from you and the rest of the NSW Labor community.
Can you donate $25 to help fund this campaign?
This election will be a big fight about big issues that will shape the future of our state. We need every organiser in every seat to have as many skills as possible and access to the resources they need if we are going to win. This means we need to double down on our training and production efforts as soon as possible.
This is a huge challenge - but if we don't meet it, we could see another four years of Liberal Government all over again. Can you help us train the leaders we need to powerfully take this fight to the front lines?
Daniel
PS. We are investing heavily in the 27 seats that need to change hands to win - and we need highly skilled staff and high quality resources for them to use. Can you donate even just $10 right now to help us train these organisers in the best organising strategies so we're ready?

Item: PANEL DISCUSSION ON PARIS ATTACKS
-----
MORRISON: I’m sorry. I have to interrupt here. I’m sorry I am not going to sit here and listen to people stupidly suggest that the French or the magazine or anyone brought this on themselves. Are you for real? We have a dozen people dead, killed in the name of a religious belief and you are seriously going to even slightly justify this?
COMPERE: I don’t think anyone is justifying anything here.
MORRISON: Well that’s not what I am hearing. I’m hearing this vaguely worded defence that France shouldn’t have done this and Sarkozy said that two years ago, and if they didn’t draw Mohammed then this might not of happened or whatever. It is obscene and a gutless way of almost saying they all deserved this. Well if you believe that you are about as bad as the idiot who thinks the pretty girl in the short skirt is asking to be raped so she better watch out.
COMPERE: That’s a ridiculous comparison.
MORRISON: Is it ridiculous? Tell me how? It’s the “you were asking for it” way of thinking. Your logic is those who drew the pictures should have known better and should have known what the response would be. Where as I say, if you can’t accept that people have different views to you then maybe the problem is with you if your response is the pull out an AK and go nuts.
COMPERE: Well, the material was designed to offend.
MORRISON: And so what. A lot of what I’ve heard here today has offended me but if you’re civilised, and I think that’s a major issue with some of the people we are talking about, if you are civilised you just get on with it. We shouldn’t have to have special rules for special people.
COMPERE: No-one is suggesting special rules just an understanding that some things are offensive.
MORRISON: So OK, we can have a bit of fun with the Pope, with Buddha, Jesus Christ on the Cross, The Dalai Lama, The Queen, Barack Obama. Want to add to the list? But not anything or anyone associated with Muslims. They’re special apparently. And that’s where all this free speech talk I’m hearing falls to bits. If you defend free speech then you defend offensive speech as well. It’s real easy to stand up for the nice stuff but sometime it gets ugly and if you are fair dinkum, as we say in Australia, you stand for all. Now, I’m not fond of Jesus Christ jokes but if you crack one you shouldn’t fear a few goons showing up with AK47s and shooting everyone in the office dead at their desks. So please, spare me the justification garbage for these terrorists being upset and just responding to provocation. If you think they are even slightly justified for killing people who drew some pictures then I’m afraid you are over in their column.
COMPERE: OK I take your point but if you deliberately set out to offend there are consequences.
MORRISON: Yes there. People might not buy your magazine or you get nasty letters in the mail from upset people but not a dozen of your workmates dead at their desks, and here we are again talking about consequences. It’s back to the same argument as the pretty girl in the bar example. If you think she’s asking to be raped you are, in my view, unfit for civilised society. You are uncivilised and maybe that’s something we should be spending a bit of energy on.

We have an industrious and very well connected correspondent who drops me a line from time to time.
I thought you might be interested in his note below.
Hi, as you may be aware the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt have an official ENGLISH webpage. http://www.ikhwanweb.com/
In addition they have an official ENGLISH webpage for their now outlawed political party "The freedom and Justice Party". This was the party that saw Mohammed Morsi ascend to president in Egypt. (www.fjponline.com)
I visit those pages quit frequently, it recently struck me both websites convey their message in Perfect English, in perfect Australian English.
My curiosity got the better of me so i decided to do a domain name search, the results both shocked and alarmed me.
I was rather taken to see Both of those webpages ARE REGISTERED TO A PERSON IN QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA.
Please do your own DOMAIN NAME SEARCH on those pages.

We're told to go about our normal lives without letting terrorism affect us. That message is through loud and clear in central Queensland, where I've spent the past week or so looking closely at the mining industry.
This is the engine room that supports our standard of living - so in the interests of going about our business untroubled by Islamists I thought I'd publish these photos from Gladstone over the past couple of days.
These 110 car coal trains are ubiquitous in the region, running every few minutes along Aurizon's small gauge rail tracks.
The audio on this home video is not the best but you'll get some sense of the dimensions of each trainload of coal - profiled, flattened along the top of the car and lacquered into place.
The Port of Gladstone is alive all day every day with an apparently unstoppable stream of coal heading off to our overseas customers. The source of our wealth and jobs here is obvious everywhere you look.
Every spare bit of space around the huge port seems to be taken up with stockpiles of coal - this relatively small mountain is is the result of dozers cleaning up spillage in the rail yards.
And the region's wealth is reflected in the town where cashed up miners spend up big.
Gladstone's river is constantly alive.
The massive man-made infrastructure in the region is formidable but it can't hold a candle to Central Queensland's natural beauty - here's Rockhampton at sunset.
