Bill Shorten's revised electoral return has been published - still questions to be answered

The ALP has filed its revised electoral returns after Bill Shorten's admissions at the Trade Union Royal Commission about Unibilt and other donations.

The AEC has published the returns here:

And here's Shorten's letter to the Party - there are still outstanding discrepancies.    As it reads you'd never know the money still came from Unbolt - might be worth checking the AWU's return too in the next couple of weeks.

What did Shorten say in evidence??? It all get very confusing when it comes to Lance Wilson.

Q. Did you tell him what to put in the contract?
A. I do recall discussing with Lance Wilson a pro rata
figure of $50,000 per year
.......
Q. Did you tell him to specify the commencement date of
19 February 2007?
A. I can't recall which date I would have specified.
Q. Did you tell him to specify the length of employment
so that he'd be employed up until the Federal election?
A. Yes, I would have probably. I don't know exactly what
I said, but it was clearly for the duration up to the
election.
.....

In May 2007 the arrangement has changed. Lance Wilson works for the AWU Vic branch donating his services to Shorten and the AWU Vic branch invoices Unibuilt for the services up to 30 November 2007

Q. Did his job change before and after 16 May 2007, in
terms of what he was doing on a day-by-day basis?
A. No.
.......
Q. To the extent, at least, that Lance Wilson worked in
October/November and was paid, it would appear, an amount
of approximately $12,731, that really ended up being just
something that the AWU donated rather than Unibilt?
A. Well, if the Union couldn't recover it off Unibuilt,
that would be the consequence, yes.
.........
Q. Can I just try and identify in overview, then, three
separate periods of time. The first period is 19 February
through to 16 May 2007. During that time, Lance Wilson's
wages were paid directly to him by Unibuilt and for that
fairly short period he seems to have been paid, I suggest
to you - and tell me if this sounds about right -
$12,500-odd plus an amount in super. Then we have a second
period, 16 May through to the end of September. For
reasons which you are unable to shed light on, he is now
employed, or nominally employed by the AWU Vic but is being
reimbursed in full by Unibuilt. We have another amount of
about $25,700 and there's a third period, October/November,
when he's still, it would appear, nominally employed by the
AWU, supposed to be reimbursed by Unibuilt but Unibuilt
didn't pay. That gives us a total amount paid by Unibuilt
of $40,000, I've got $40,203, and a total amount paid to
Lance Wilson of about $52,000. Does that sound about
right?
A. The general ballpark sounds right. I can't speak to
the precise numbers, but the general ballpark sounds
correct...
