Courage and Commitment
Monday, 14 December 2015
We all feel low sometimes. When I do I look to others and know that I share their humanity and that if it is to be, it is up to me. I know the courage is there, it's up to me to find it and to commit to keep going.
If you think you face insurmountable odds, if you think there's no way through and you might as well just give up, then listen to President Reagan's Remarks on Presenting the Congressional Medal of Honor to Roy P. Benavidez.
Roy Benavidez faced a task most men would think impossible. Roy didn't. Listen to his story.
And in this next clip you will see the difference between the Twitter people and real men.
Just before 3 minutes into this clip there's a small sequence from the movie. At about 3 minutes the interviewer talks about the "hopelessness" of the situation and implies what the SEAL/Special Forces team did was meaningless. Listen to the sole survivor's reaction and be inspired.
For further and better particulars as to the two character types see below.
This is a Twitter person - selfish, gutless by himself without numbers, sly - lasted 20 minutes in the Army Reserve while at university before the man's true character was discovered.
This is the opposite of Bill Shorten. The late Captain Bert Jacka VC MC (and Bar), former Mayor of Saint Kilda who died on 17 January 1932 at Caulfield Military Hospital as a result of wounds from World War One. A great man who fought for his mates until his last breath - and when he found out he was associating with a dubious character John Wren (Raheen anyone?) told his wealthy benefactor where to go rather than take his money and sell his soul.
Rest in Peace. Lest we Forget about men like Bert Jacka.
