From the NSW Law Society Journal celebrating a....well read it and make up your own mind.
His Honour on police being armed to enforce the law in "his" court (as opposed to our country).
Here is His Honour in all his judicially active glory.
Andrew first became involved in Aboriginal justice issues in 1976 after young residents of nearby Everleigh St stole his bicycle from his Chippendale home. As a law student he was involved in the establishment of Redfern Legal Centre. After graduating from UNSW Andrew worked as a Solicitor with the Redfern Legal Centre, the NSW Legal Aid Commission and the Aboriginal Legal Service in Alice Springs. In Alice he spent a lot of time at bush courts and working with remote communities. Admitted to the Bar in 1990 and appointed Senior Counsel in 2004, Andrew had a large criminal trial and appeal practice. A lot of his work was in country NSW, mainly the South Coast. Andrew was appointed as a judge of the District Court in September 2010. Before his appointment he was a Barrister and a Deputy Senior Public Defender for NSW. In 1999-2000 he was Director of the NSW Attorney General’s Criminal Law Review Division.
