More government by Facebook petition

One of our readers dropped me this note:

Michael,did you get this?

Got same/similar last week.
I think this idea of a ruling government asking for petitions to be signed must be one of Turnbull's "innovations"!!!!
It's pathetic.

I feel the same way - I can't imagine John Howard signing a request like this, even in the midst of his negotiations with the Democrats whose support he needed for his GST legislation.

Dear xxx,

The construction industry is vital for our transition to the new economy – it provides employment for more than 1 million Australians in around 100,000 businesses.

Unfortunately bullying, intimidation and lawlessness is rife. Around 2 out of every 3 working days lost to industrial disputes are in the construction industry.

Unlawful conduct on building sites around Australia is costing jobs and is making local infrastructure more expensive.

When the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) was last in force, productivity in the sector grew by 20 per cent. Since Bill Shorten and Labor abolished it, productivity has flatlined.

Parliament has been recalled to consider the re-introduction of the Australian Building and Construction Commission.

Restoring the ABCC is vital – it means more investment, more infrastructure, more construction and more jobs.

This week is critical. Can you sign and share our petition to restore the rule of law in our construction industry?

Thank you for your support.

Regards,
