Get 'em where they live. Closure orders for Australian Mosques.
Sunday, 19 June 2016
Society's experiences with organised crime tell us it's not enough just to ban the bad things.
Theft, murder, rape, and armed robbery have all been banned for centuries. They still happen.
The big advances against organised crime came with peripheral approaches to the core evil - things like asset confiscations and other interventions that get 'em where they live.
Pubs, clubs and discos operate under very tight licence conditions. The licensee is responsible for his staff - they enforce Responsible Service of Alcohol regulations, they have to had security controllers and a range of other operating requirements.
Breach the rules by say allowing a big brawl to develop where God forbid someone's killed and the place will be closed down. Licence gone.
Mosques are public places. They operate under licence. Preach hate, allow criminals to consort, plan criminal acts and like the bawdy houses of old - you're gone. That's the way it should be - but at present it's quite the opposite.
There seems to be a presumption in favour of Mosques at present. We are timid and scared of standing up to bullies who hide behind girly victim tags.
Objections to building new ones are often falsely branded or presumptively viewed as motivated by bigotry or racism.
The gun that killed Curtis Cheng was supplied at the Parramatta Mosque.
Gay hate speech is routinely preached at Mosques.
Yet I can find no closure order against a Mosque in Australia.
That must change. Banning hate speech and acts of terror isn't enough.
Get 'em where they live.
