The Dutch go to the polls later today with Geert Wilders leaving no doubt on his policies

The Dutch go to the polls later today, with counting to start at 7AM Sydney time tomorrow.

Geert Wilders wants to be PM.  His party's platform includes a ban on the Koran, shutting Mosques and Islamic schools, zero refugee intake and a ban on immigration from Muslim countries.

Wrap all that up into a slogan - "The Netherlands Ours Again."

He certainly leaves the Turks in no doubt about where he stands.  The Moroccans (another major source country for Holland's Muslims copped a serve too, "There is a lot of Moroccan scum in Holland who make the streets unsafe, mostly young people — and that should change".

Wilders has led the polls since November and he appears likely to win the popular vote - however the prime ministership may elude him, this synopsis of the Dutch parliamentary system from the ABC.

The Dutch House of Representatives has 150 members who are elected in four-year terms. Like the Australian Senate, their lower house is elected by a system of proportional representation.

This means the seats are split between an array of major and minor parties. The next prime minister will probably have to form a coalition with a range of parties.

All major parties have ruled out striking a power-sharing agreement with Mr Wilders, even if he wins the popular vote. They consider his policies to be either too extreme or simply unconstitutional.

This does not mean a high vote for Mr Wilders would be meaningless. If he does do well on Wednesday, it will put pressure on whoever wins to move closer to his agenda.

It will also put the frighteners up the established political parties in the EU who are facing voters in the coming months.

Our two major parties should take notice.  They are suppressing discussion about Islam - and pretending it's wonderful and a force for good.  That has very powerful consequences.  People aren't stupid - we can read the Koran and listen to the sermons.  The sooner we cut the feel-good crap and start to get real on dealing with Islam the less pain and blowback we will suffer.

I wish Geert Wilders well - the sooner the brakes are put on Islam's growing influence in Europe the better.
