Former WA MP Barry Urban faces criminal investigation over serial lies

Former West Australian MP Barry Urban is now facing criminal charges.

Police have launched a criminal investigation into disgraced West Australian MP Barry Urban after a parliamentary inquiry found he repeatedly lied about his qualifications and work history, including a claim that he served as a war crimes investigator in Bosnia.

Mr Urban announced his resignation as the MP for Darling Range yesterday just moments after the procedures and privileges committee recommended his expulsion from parliament.

Appearing before a separate parliamentary inquiry today, WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said he had written to the Speaker to confirm an intention to pursue “criminal charges” against the one-time Labor MP.
