RIP Sir.
You were the soldiers' soldier.

Lachlan Irvine
My commanding officer in Vietnam, J J Shelton, sat up in his hospital bed to watch the service for the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Fire Support Bases Coral and Balmoral on TV today, and then slipped quietly away and died. He was 92. Loved and respected by all who served under his leadership. I had the honour of being his radio operator for the last 3 months of my time in Vietnam. A great soldier and a real gentleman.
