Lucy Gichuhi gets zero 1st round votes for endorsement on Liberal Senate ticket

Unlucky Lucy.

Zero.  Zip.  Nada.

Very wise people in the SA Liberal Party.

Good bye Lucy.

Here's part of The Australian's report.

Liberal senator Lucy Gichuhi has suffered a devastating blow in today’s preselection as she is relegated to the fourth spot on the South Australian senate ticket for the next election.

Kenyan-born senator Gichuhi — Australia’s first African senator — was endorsed by John Howard and Malcolm Turnbull.

But a strong challenge from Adelaide City councillor and SA Liberal Party vice-president Alex Antic saw her relegated to an unwinnable spot on the senate ticket.

Mr Antic, backed by elements of the party’s right, mounted a strong move against factional colleague David Fawcett for the second spot on the ticket.

But some conservatives and moderates combined to keep Senator Fawcett safe at No 2.

As expected, Assistant Agriculture and Water Minister Anne Ruston was overwhelmingly voted in by delegates to the No 1 spot.

Ms Gichuhi — a former crossbench senator who defected to the Liberals in February — received no votes from delegates in the first round of voting, while Mr Antic outpolled Senator Fawcett 65 to 21.

In the second round, with Senator Ruston safe at No 1, Senator Fawcett received 113 votes to Mr Antic’s 86, while Senator Gichuhi managed just 11.

In the final round of voting to determine the third and fourth ticket positions, Mr Antic received 117 votes to Senator Gichuhi’s 93.

Meet Kevin Rudd, Australia's Global Voice for Social Justice, Equality and Diplomacy

Thanks to Underminder for pointing out the obvious deficiency in our first boring photo of Rudd.

Given that he's introduced the topic of his ancestors, it's only fit and proper that we update the photo, just for the record.

Await Gillard's next shot to up the ante.

Further update and correction!

I mentioned that Rudd doesn't have an Order of Australia.  He knocked it back after he was apparently recommended by Tony Abbott and it was then "urged on him by Malcolm Turnbull".

In the interests of balance and fairness (to Social Justice, Equality, Diplomacy and the rat-f*ckers) here's some Kevin Rudd international statesmanship he prepared earlier.

Last look at HMAS Tobruk for the non-divers among us - tonight, she sleeps with the fishes.

HMAS_tobruk_crestRest there in peace old girl and thank you for your (admittedly intermittent) service.

This from Wikipedia

HMAS Tobruk (L 50) was a Landing Ship Heavy (LSH) of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), based on the design of the Round Table-class of the British Royal Fleet Auxiliary. Planning for the ship began in the 1970s to provide the Australian Army with a permanent sealift capability. She was laid down by Carrington Slipways in 1979, launched in 1980, and commissioned in 1981. She was a multi-purpose, roll-on/roll-off heavy lift ship capable of transporting soldiers, APCs, and tanks, and delivering them to shore via landing craft or directly by beaching.

The ship experienced problems during her early career with her engines (which differed from the British base design) and sewerage system (leading to the death of a cadet in 1981). During the 1980s, the ship delivered supplies to the Multinational Force and Observers on the Sinai Peninsula, assisted in the withdrawal from RAAF Base Butterworth, provided support and accommodation for delegates to the South Pacific Forum, and was part of the Australian response to the 1987 Fijian coups d'état. In the early 1990s, Tobruk was part of ceremonies marking the 75th anniversary of the landing at Anzac Cove, then after a refit, participated in peacekeeping efforts in Somalia.

Plans to replace Tobruk with one of the Kanimbla-class ships began in 1993. She was offered for sale to the Royal New Zealand Navy, who refused because of the ship's manpower requirements. Delays in converting the Kanimbla's for service meant Tobruk continued with normal operations during the 1990s. Attempts to sell the ship to the British and the Portuguese did not succeed, and in 1997 the decision was made to keep Tobruk, as the Kanimbla's could not completely replace the heavy lift capability provided. During this period, Tobruk was deployed to Bougainville on several occasions as peacekeeping operations during the Bougainville Civil War. At the end of the decade, Tobruk operated as part of the INTERFET peacekeeping operation in East Timor.

In 2000 and 2001, Tobruk was sent to the Solomon Islands on several deployments in response to the civil war: first to evacuate Australian citizens, then as a neutral venue for peace talks. From late 2001 to early 2002, the ship was in northern Australian waters on border-protection duties as part of Operation Relex. During 2005 and early 2006, Tobruk sailed to the Middle East on several occasions to deliver vehicles and cargo to Australian forces in the region. Tobruk and the two Kanimbla's were set to East Timor in mid-2006 in response to the 2006 East Timorese crisis, forming the first RAN amphibious readiness group since World War II. The rest of the decade included further border protection deployments under Operation Resolute, a visit to Hawaii for the RIMPAC multinational naval exercise, support for the Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Program, relief operations following the 2009 Samoa earthquake and tsunami, and use as the venue for a Fall Out Boy concert.

After spending several months in 2010 undergoing extended maintenance, Tobruk participated in the United States Navy's Pacific Partnership humanitarian assistance deployment. Because of the need for propeller shaft repairs, Tobruk could not be part of the military response to Cyclone Yasi. Heavy use and lack of maintenance in previous years began to take its toll, with Tobruk unavailable for service on several occasions during the early 2010s. As the two Kanimbla's had been forced out of service by ongoing issues, the Australian government had to charter a succession of civilian ships to provide standby heavy transport capability. In 2013, Tobruk again participated in Pacific Partnership, followed by a visit to the Philippines with disaster relief supplies after Typhoon Haiyan. In early 2015, the ship was part of the response to Cyclone Pam's impact on Vanuatu. Tobruk was decommissioned in July 2015, and was scuttled as a dive wreck by in June 2018.

Media Statement on Senator Hanson-Young

28 June 2018

In the Senate this afternoon my colleague Senator Fraser Anning moved that the Australian Government lift the ban on the importation of non-lethal methods of self-defence such as pepper sprays, mace and tasers and for state governments to be encouraged to actively promote such devices to women for their personal protection.

The defeat of the motion 46 votes to 5 was disappointing. The recent spate of horrific crimes against women has shocked us all.

Greens Senator Janet Rice spoke against this motion. During her speech fellow Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young interjected, saying something along the lines of all men being rapists.

I responded by suggesting that if this was the case she should stop shagging men.

I did not yell at her.

Following the division, Senator Hanson-Young approached me and called me a creep.

I told her to fuck off.

Leader of the Greens Senator Richard Di Natale subsequently approached me and said he planned to report my comments to the president.

The president subsequently advised me to withdraw my comments and apologise.

I informed the president I would not be doing this.

I do not agree with Senator Hanson-Young’s sentiments about all men being rapists and I believe I have the right to voice my opinion accordingly. That Senator Hanson-Young took offence from my comments is an issue for her, not me.

However, I am prepared to rephrase my comments.

I strongly urge Senator Hanson-Young to continue shagging men as she pleases.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Senate will return to the business of voting down all common-sense proposals that might make society a safer place for women to exercise their right of freedom of movement.

Strip Morrison of his Australian of the Year title. He's a fraud and a shadow of a man.

UPDATE from one of our most respected soldiers, Charlie Lynn about one of our least respected.

Screen Shot 2018-06-30 at 6.57.06 am

David Morrison maliciously destroyed another man's career to advance his own.

He adopted the made-up, flavour-of-the-month issue of perceived sexism as his personal cause.

Lack of evidence never bothered him.  Evidence was irrelevant.

He is beneath contempt and no role model for decent Australians.

Samantha Dan I commented before watching the 7 news clip where they showed the press release 😂😂. Robert Ovadia has pursued this story over the years and I'm sure won't leave it alone until there is some sort of consequence for Morrison.

Thank you so much for remembering Karl's story xx

Stop shagging!! Do they still serve grog at parliament house?

Leyonhjelm told Hanson-Young to ‘stop shagging men’

Liberal Democratic Party senator David Leyonhjelm has confirmed he told the Greens’ Sarah Hanson-Young to “stop shagging men” and then swore at her when she confronted him.

Senator Hanson-Young yesterday told parliament the LDP senator made the remark during a vote on a motion about arming women with Tasers to combat violence.

“I asked whether I heard him correctly; he confirmed he yelled ‘you should stop shagging men, Sarah’,” Senator Hanson-Young said. “Shocked, I told him he was a creep. His reply was to tell me to ‘f..k off’.”

Senate president Scott Ryan asked Senator Leyonhjelm to apologise but he refused.

Senator Leyonhjelm said he was responding to Senator Hanson-Young’s interjection, which was “along the lines of all men being rapists”.

“I responded by suggesting that if this was the case she should stop shagging men. I did not yell at her,” Senator Leyonhjelm said. “Following the division, Senator Hanson-Young approached me and called me a creep. I told her to f..k off.”

He said that if the Greens senator took offence, it was an issue for her. “I am prepared to rephrase my comments. I strongly urge Senator Hanson-Young to continue shagging men as she pleases,” Senator Leyonhjelm said.

Senator Hanson-Young described the comments as sexist and offensive, adding she was disappointed Senator Leyonhjelm had not apologised.

Greens leader Richard Di Natale has approached Senator Ryan over the incident.

Turnbull AG handballs complaint from DETSGT responsible for Gillard/Wilson/Blewitt criminal investigation

No one, state or federal liberals, in govt or opposition want to take any responsibility for this at all, everyone either writes this or has simply ignored me.....

That's in an email from Dave to me today.

As a Detective Sergeant, Dave McAlpine was used to the WA DPP interfering in his investigations.  Here he is with the August 1996 letter in which the WA DPP stopped Dave travelling to Melbourne to execute a search warrant on Slater and Gordon.

Imagine how Dave feels to get this letter from the Government of Turnbull's Attorney General's department.

Screen Shot 2018-06-28 at 3.07.15 pm

Note the response is from Ms Byng of the Royal Commissions Branch of AG Porter's department.

It was the Trade Union Royal Commission that recommended Mr Blewitt face the charges that were recently discontinued in the WA Courts.

Trade Union Royal Commissioner Heydon made this finding about GILLARD.

If she had failed to notice these matters, she would have been careless.

If she deliberately ignored the matters described, she was party to Ralph Blewitt’s deceit.

And what are "these matters"?

The prosecution against Blewitt was dropped within days of his lawyer lodging detailed Notices to Produce on the prosecution requiring it to furnish documents about "these matters".  Documents that Mr Blewitt believed implicated GILLARD in The AWU Scandal crimes.

The fact that the Detective Sergeant in charge of the original investigation copped the note above speaks volumes about the handball mentality in this case.

More, much, much more from me soon.

IN the meantime, here's some stuff we published just on 18 months ago.

Weighing the cases for and against GILLARD

Commissioner Heydon, Trade Union Royal Commission on GILLARD's role in the incorporation of the AWU Workplace Reform Association.

JULIA

"Bruce, I got a new client today."

BRUCE

"Good onya.  Who is it?"

JULIA

"The imbecile.  You know, the sexist pig, the liar - it's Ralph, the bloke who reports to you. He came to see me separately in his personal capacity to instruct me on creating a separate legal entity in the name of the AWU.   He wants to be the person who'll be responsible for your slush fund if anything goes wrong."

BRUCE

"Oh that's big of him.  Thanks for letting me know.  Now stop stealing the doona and get your contacts out of me beer".

The AWU frauds involve more than $1M in today's value.

There are plenty of records.

All we need now are indictments and a jury.

Yesterday StephenJ dropped us a note on how the court will weigh the two cases - the prosecution's and "I did nothing wrong".

"Evidence and Advocacy" Butterworths 1988

W A N Wells, former Supreme Court judge in Sth Aust.

It is well worth reading in relation to the inferences to be drawn about Gillard's knowledge.

A very brief précis.

1.Evidence is weighed not according to its intrinsic worth in isolation.

2.It is weighed as part of the whole body of evidence.

3.Part of this involves a matching of the two cases. Prosecution and defence.

4. In doing this the powers and access to information of the parties is a factor.

5.In the great proportion of criminal trials no direct proof of the crime can be given.

6.If a conclusion of guilt is available and no (convincing) explanation or contradiction is offered a guilty verdict is available.

7. Re the extract on page 55 about denial and explanations re allegations - how many times has Gillards story changed? Recognition of conscious guilt?

"what is revealed when an unsatisfactory attempt is made to contradict or explain, may bridge, or help bridge, the gap between what is, and what is not, positively and explicitly revealed by the evidence." Eg the "election slush fund" excuse can not survive any reasonable examination; the failure to refer to ministerial approval anywhere (interview , RC, press conferences, Parliament).

8. There is a summary starting p 56.
