Tommy Robinson, Milo Yiannopoulos and for a short time President Donald Trump have all been banned from Twitter - Tommy and Milo permanently.
And yet convicted multiple murderer and current prisoner Craig Minogue is apparently free to use Twitter to spout his self-interested bile from within Victoria's Barwon Prison - and not a finger is being lifted to stop him.
The Twitter account is real and it includes audio recordings of the prisoner - made courtesy of a friend outside the prison.
I have decided against publishing Minogue's self-serving rants here out of respect for the victims of his crimes.
The Australian's Sam Hutchison reports:
The government and Corrections Victoria staff said they were powerless to stop Minogue sending messages from inside jail attacking the government and the opposition.
After the (High) court decision, Minogue issued a two-minute statement from inside Barwon Prison by asking someone on his approved call list to record a message he read over the phone and upload it to Minogue’s Twitter account.
“The power of parliament to make laws should be used responsibly and as part of a carefully calculated response to social problem and not as a part of some cynical political advertising,” he said in the message.
“I hope that the government and the opposition will now respect the decision of the (High Court) and will not seek to move the goalposts again for a second time.”
A Corrections Victoria spokeswoman told The Australian Minogue had not broken any rules in sending the message, nor had the person who recorded the call and posted it online breached the conditions of the call list.
But the agency said it encouraged all involved to think about the effect their communications would have on victims of crime.
“Like the rest of the community, we would expect whoever is facilitating this activity outside prison to consider the effect that publishing this information has on victims of crime,” it said.
Pressed on the issue in question time, Ms Tierney said: “We would expect whoever is facilitating this activity outside prison to consider the effect that that publishing has and this information has on victims of crime.”
Opposition spokesman for corrections Ed O’Donohue said the government and Corrections Victoria should remove the person publishing the messages from Minogue’s approved call list. “It’s completely inappropriate,” he said.
“Here we have a multiple murderer; a man who not only murdered Angela Taylor and blew up Russell Street but he also murdered a prisoner behind bars and he is enjoying what is taking place … Gayle Tierney, the Corrections Minister, needs to act.”
Well the Andrews/CFMEU Government might not know how to act - but you do and I know you will.
Twitter had no problems in deactivating the accounts below (list courtesy of Wikipedia).
Let Twitter know how you feel about a prisoner and convicted murderer who is currently serving a term of imprisonment using the Twitter service to "fight" for his freedom - while his victims continue to suffer.
