WO1 John Franklin and I joined the army together in January 1978 and have kept in touch (along with about 500 other blokes in various regimental associations) ever since.
For the past two weeks John and the Band of the 1st Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery based in Enoggera Barracks Brisbane have been in Far North Queensland.
Last night they camped in Arakun after spending the day with local soldiers and school kids.
How good was this as the sun was going down!
This from John:
Band of the 1st Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery brought music to Arakun and will leave with so much more than they imagined from the amazing people on the west coast of Far North Queensland. This video was filmed at the Aurukun Landing just before the band’s final evening performance. On Didgeridoo the Bandmaster WO1 Hemi Anning. Vocals by SGT James Petterson and LCPL Elizabeth Smith. On percussion CPL Jeff Lee and Guitarist MUSN Tyson Jones. #1RegtBand #yourADF
Thanks for your service John and congratulations to you and all your troops!
FNQ jazz lovers will know the greatest dixieland trumpeter ever to don a slouch hat - Knobby Neilsen. Knobby was my WO2 Sergeant-Major for a couple of years at Kapooka in the early 1980s and a nicer bloke you'd never meet.
So good to see John and Knobby together!
