And that's the point.

The Australian Government - in fact Australia itself - made that promise.

No ifs, no buts - an unequivocal crystal clear position.

And now Australia's resolve has been broken.

The message to people smuggler clients is simple - keep up the pressure for long enough and Australia will break.

It's weak.

When Australia says "You will never come to Australia" it really means you probably will if you keep up the pressure.
