Humiliation for Julie Bishop, her preferred replacement for Curtin gets 1 (one) vote

This proves again how out of touch Bishop was with her Party and her electors.

It's a self-inflicted humiliating kick in the backside as she's on the way out.

No doubt she'll exploit it to the max as a sign of how she's the only one in step in a Liberal Party that's lost its way.

Liberal Party preselects Celia Hammond in WA seat of Curtin vacated by former foreign minister Julie Bishop

Updated

West Australian Liberal Party members have nominated Celia Hammond to replace former foreign minister Julie Bishop as the party's candidate for the seat of Curtin.

After a five-hour meeting at the Cambridge Bowling Club in Floreat, the 50-year-old lawyer and former vice-chancellor of Notre Dame University was the successful candidate from five nominees vying for the safe Liberal seat in Perth's western suburbs.

Ms Hammond was regarded as one of the three main contenders for the seat, along with foreign affairs specialist Erin Watson-Lynn and Anna Dartnell, a mining transport executive.

She was tipped to be the favourite early in the preselection process, but several potentially damaging media reports in the days leading up to the vote led some Liberal members to suggest the race would be tight.

Details emerged of a speech given by Ms Hammond in 2013, in which she raised concerns about "premarital casual sex" and "militant feminism".

Comments from Ms Watson-Lynn's Twitter account dating back to 2013 were also published, in which she referred to herself as a "non-Liberal voter" and criticised former prime minister Tony Abbott.

Tight race for ultra-safe seat

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Scott Morrison dismissed reports of a bitter tussle between Liberal powerbrokers over the preselection process, describing the commentary as "overstated".

"There are a number of candidates, the preselectors will stand up on Sunday and make a decision," Mr Morrison told reporters during a three-day tour of WA.

The race to find a Liberal candidate for the blue-ribbon seat of Curtin was triggered last month when Ms Bishop announced she was retiring after a 20-year career in politics.

The surprise announcement, on Parliament's final sitting day ahead of the federal budget on April 2, ended months of speculation about Ms Bishop's intentions, following her move to the backbench in the wake of last year's leadership spill.

Ms Bishop was the first Australian woman to serve as foreign minister, and the first woman to stand for the leadership of the federal Liberal Party.

She has held the seat of Curtin — one of the safest Coalition seats in the nation — since 1998.

Ms Bishop currently holds the electorate by a margin of 20.7 per cent.

Mahathir's Malaysia sets up online unit to monitor criticism of Islam

Mahathir's Malaysia isn't setting up an online unit to monitor Islamic terrorists.

It's setting up an online unit to monitor everyone else.

Why?

Malaysia wants to know who is saying what about Islam, Islamism, Muhammad and his 6 year old wife.

And the Malaysian police and courts are ready to dispense swift and severe injustice to anyone who dares to be critical.

PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya has set up a special unit to monitor online activity for any form of insult against Islam, following several cases of people allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad on Facebook.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the unit, which will come under the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), has been tasked with monitoring any form of writing or provocation against Islam or Prophet Muhammad on all media platforms including social media.

“I have also asked them to lodge reports immediately with the police and the Communications and Multimedia Commission if they receive any complaints about the matter,” he said in a statement today.

He said those with information or complaints can WhatsApp the unit’s hotline at 010-300 5260 or email [email protected].

“I believe the authorities have made the right move to tackle the issue,” he said. “I hope we can all work together to maintain harmony in the country.

“Our country has laws. Those who have done wrong must be appropriately punished.”

Police have so far detained three people accused of insulting Prophet Muhammad on Facebook.

Top cop Mohamad Fuzi Harun said that as of March 5, police had received 929 reports across the country and opened 16 investigation papers on cases connected to insulting Islam.

Police are also tracking down another man who allegedly insulted the prophet on Twitter.

Babi muhammad bodoh.

Roughly translates to "Muhammad, stupid pig".

Those 3 words have cost 22 year old Alister Cogia the next 10 years of his life.

Malaysian police have been ordered to go on the offensive against people who "insult" Islam, the Prophet Muhammad or his 6 year bride Aisyah.

So far this year, more than 900 people in Malaysia have been reported to police for insulting Islam, the prophet or his 9 year old conquest.

This is a shocking, frightening development.

The warning from police is not confined to Muslims, nor is it confined to Malaysian nationals.

If you've republished an anti-Islam comment on Facebook or Twitter and you come within the grasp of Malaysian police, this could be you.

10 years jail for "insulting" Islam on social media is a mediaeval punishment.  One day is too much.

Australia must protest to Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad's new government.

And we should make it clear that there will be serious consequences should any Australian be so much as looked at by Malaysia's thought police.

Jussie Smollett indicted on 16 counts over twists and turns in his alleged bullshit story

It's still Trump's fault.  Somehow.  They're sure of it!

Cook County grand jury has indicted “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett on 16 counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly lying to police about being the victim of a racist and homophobic attack.

The multiple counts highlight different aspects of Smollett’s allegedly phony story, including claims that his attackers beat him, poured a chemical substance on him and put a rope around his neck.

The indictment, made public Friday, comes a little more than two weeks after prosecutors charged Smollett with a single felony count and he was released from Cook County Jail after a friend posted his $100,000 bond.

Smollett is scheduled to appear in the Leighton Criminal Court Building on Thursday so a judge can be assigned to preside over his case and he can enter a plea to the 16 counts. A conviction on any count could lead to a sentence ranging from probation to up to three years in prison.

The actor, 36, is accused of staging a phony attack on himself, then telling police he was the victim of a hate crime.

Smollett, who is African-American and openly gay, has said he was walking from a Subway sandwich shop to his apartment in the 300 block of East North Water Street around 2 a.m. Jan. 29 when two men walked up, yelled racial and homophobic slurs, hit him and wrapped a noose around his neck.

Smollett said they also yelled, “This is MAGA country,” referring to President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan of “Make America Great Again.”

Police initially treated the incident as a hate crime, but their focus turned to Smollett after two brothers who were alleged to have been his attackers told police that Smollett had paid them $3,500 to stage the attack, with a promise of another $500 later.

Police pieced together much of their evidence by reviewing footage from about 55 police and private surveillance cameras showing the brothers' movements before and after the attack.

The shift in the investigation came amid often bitter public debate and stinging skepticism on social media — doubts that Smollett addressed in a national TV interview and in a strongly worded statement after the brothers were released from custody after questioning by police.

A week before the alleged attack, Smollett told police he received a threatening letter at work. Witnesses told police a postal worker dropped off the letter at the Chicago studio where “Empire” is filmed. It was postmarked in southwest suburban Bedford Park on Jan. 18 and bore two American flag stamps. The letters “MAGA” were handwritten in the upper-left corner of the envelope.

Prosecutors said Smollett staged the attack because he was unhappy with the studio's response to the threatening letter. Chicago police took it a step further, accusing Smollett of faking the letter as well.

The letter is the subject of a separate federal investigation.

On Feb. 21, the day Smollett was initially charged, Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson blasted the actor, saying the hoax dragged "Chicago's reputation through the mud."

Fmr Labor Party President Michael Williamson out of jail & back on millionaire's row

Disgusting.

This man, Michael Williamson is the primary beneficiary of an ostensible Family Court divorce settlement - arranged and negotiated by none other than former Labor Attorney General Robert McClelland.  The Honourable Judge Robert McClelland is now the Deputy Chief Justice of the Family Court - and former prisoner Michael Williamson is now residing in the mansion manoeuvred out of the prying eyes of his bankruptcy trustee.

Here's part of Kate McClymont's story in Nine News newspapers today.

Screen Shot 2019-03-09 at 6.51.04 am

After five years in prison for his “parasitic plundering” of his union’s funds, former Health Services Union boss Michael Williamson has been released from jail and is living with his ex-wife in a waterfront house bought and renovated using stolen union funds.

His former wife Julieanne received the house in the divorce settlement she struck with her husband before he went to jail.

The former national president of the Labor Party was released from Cessnock jail last Saturday and his family drove him 45 kilometres to their two-storey holiday home at Brightwaters on the shores of Lake Macquarie. The family also own the house next door.

In October 2013 Williamson agreed to plead guilty to stealing $1 million from the union, but in reality the amount was estimated to be closer $20 million. As part of his plea deal he signed an undertaking to repay the HSU $5 million which he had fraudulently used to maintain his family’s lavish lifestyle.

EXTRACT ENDS

Now watch the brain-dead Liberals make absolutely nothing out of this dreadful corruption of our political and public accountability systems.

Here's one small example.  As Williamson's well-known thefts and frauds from HSU members finally "crossed the line" and Labor determined to cut him and his union loose, former Senator Sam Dastyari got on the phone to warn the union about what was coming.

Williamson had been at the heart of Labor politics for years.

His daughter Alex Williamson was Ms Gillard's media advisor, even rating a thank you in Ms Gillard's final speech to the parliament for 2009.

Williamson is a reminder of the corrupt networks of mates and mates of mates who make sure Labor luminaries are looked after.  Particularly mates like Williamson who are perceived to have taken one for the team.

By its silence, the Liberal Party condones this Old Mates Act corruption.

It's a club.

And we're not members.
