Anniversary of the Granville Train Disaster

Lots of my army mates are celebrating various anniversaries today.

For me, it's 40 years since I marched in to 1 Recruit Training Battalion (on staff, not as a recruit).

One of the brothers had a particularly poignant commemoration which I thought I'd share with you.

Different kind of 43rd anniversary for me.
18th of January 1977 I was on leave in Sydney and my sister and I caught this train to the beach.
I'll never forget that day.

Thanks to Jason Morrison for the audio archive.

I just posted Jason's audio to my army Facebook group, the brother who was in the train replied with:

We got off the train onto the tracks we had to avoid the electric wires for the trains because they were down on the ground.
When we climbed up the side of the cutting to the roadway and looked down at the collapsed bridge and the shattered first carriage, we just couldn't believe what were were seeing.

Terrible day for Sydney.
