Vale Paul Farnes.
Lest We Forget.
The last fighter ace of the Battle of Britain has died, leaving only two of The Few alive.
Wing Commander Paul Farnes died peacefully at his home in Hampshire on Tuesday morning at the age of 101.
Mr Farnes, a hurricane pilot, was one of 3,000 Allied airmen who fought in the Battle of Britain and was the last surviving ace — a pilot who had brought down five or more enemy aircraft.
He had fought in the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain before going on to defend Malta and serve in North Africa and Iraq.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal, the highest honour for non-officers, and was the only airman fit enough last year to attend the annual memorial.
