Medical lecture from a pulmonologist on how Coronavirus kills - Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Indebted to Underminder for the tip!

How Coronavirus causes fatalities from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) by pulmonologist Dr. Seheult of https://www.medcram.com

This video illustrates how viruses can cause pneumonia or widespread lung inflammation resulting in ARDS. Includes evidenced-based ARDS treatment breakthrough strategies: Low tidal volume ventilation, paralysis, and prone positioning.

Wall Street Journal - Tony Abbott on Trump

Screen Shot 2020-01-29 at 1.39.06 pm

From a speech by former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott (2013-15) at the Heritage Foundation, Jan. 21:

Back in November of 2014, when Australia hosted the annual meeting of the G-20, it was by far the most important gathering of leaders ever held in my country; and it should have been a diplomatic triumph—but for President Barack Obama choosing to give a speech at the University of Queensland that was seen as an attack on my government’s climate policy.

At the time, there was pressure to rebuke him for discourtesy, but I chose not to, because it was the duty, I thought, of the Australian prime minister not to be critical of the leader of the free world.

Now, I have to say that on this trip to Washington, I’ve noticed that respect for the office of the president is not so common, even here in the United States itself.

That’s a pity, if I may say so, because he’s not just your president. As the leader of the free world—which the president inevitably is, by virtue of America’s singular strength and goodwill—in a sense he’s everyone’s president, and the world needs him to succeed almost as much as America does.

If the president is strong, America is strong. And if America is strong, Australia is stronger, Britain is stronger, Canada is stronger, and all the countries of the free world are stronger.

That’s why so many people outside of the United States follow each president’s triumphs and travails almost as closely as if we were ourselves citizens of this great republic.

And much to the surprise of many, given the dismay that greeted President Donald Trump’s election; indeed, somewhat to my own surprise, given my view then that Mr Trump was almost uniquely under-qualified for such an office, I think he’s been quite a success: his style sometimes grates, but he’s been a very good president.

Maybe it’s just been overtaken by Trump derangement syndrome, but for the first time in years the main narrative is not one of American decline.

SURVEY - should we divert funding for Palestinians to our own bushfire victims?

UPDATE - after 1,000 votes (sorry to the non-Twitter users, I've been trying to get something up on Survey Monkey but it's thus far been defeating me, your best place to get involved if you're not on Twitter is by leaving a comment here!).

I have no idea why Australia needs to get involved in the Middle East.

It's a long way from home and right now we have so many of our own people in desperate need.

I'd love to send a strong message to the Morrison Government, so I've set up a survey and I'd love you to support it!

Greta, good news, you can give it away, ABC News has spoken and "The future of coal has already been decided"

Stop all the protests.

Cease research funding on climate change.

Disband the IPCC and stop the annual climate-fest junkets.

It's all just wasted money.

Australia's taxpayer funded ABC News reports just "The Facts".

And according to the ABC, the fact is "The Future Of Coal Has Already Been Decided".

Screen Shot 2020-01-29 at 11.35.27 am

It was a story that raised a few hackles, particularly in Canberra, but one largely overlooked as the unfolding disaster gripped the nation.

Early last month, as fire swept across large parts of the east coast and South Australia but before the Christmas conflagration, secret internal documents detailing ANZ's rapid retreat from coal hit the news.

Contrary to its public statements before Parliament just a few weeks before, the bank had formulated a plan to shed more than $700 million in thermal coal loans within the next four years: a 75 per cent reduction.

This was a major shift for ANZ, the country's biggest lender to the coal industry, and one that would bring it into line with the Commonwealth Bank and the National Australia Bank.

A few weeks later, investment bank Goldman Sachs, in one of the strongest positions from any American financier, ruled out future thermal coal financing, either for new mines or power stations globally.

Then, a fortnight ago, the world's biggest investment house Blackrock, announced it was drastically reducing its exposure to thermal coal.

United in the unbridled pursuit of profit

These weren't knee-jerk reactions to the horror, the wholesale destruction and tragic loss of life across rural Australia, unfolding on television screens around the world.

Nor were they the actions of the "green left".

These were considered, long-term, strategic decisions made individually by disparate groups united by a single cause — the unbridled pursuit of profit.

The message each is broadcasting is clear. When it comes to investment, coal, particularly thermal coal for electricity generation, has little, if any, future.

Scott Morrison take note! Terrific ad from US Republicans to the silent majority "They think you're a joke".

Screen Shot 2020-01-29 at 11.23.00 am

(Prime Minister and Jenny Morrison with the Shortens at the Canberra Press Gallery's Midwinter Ball)

Scott Morrison and his team are too close to the Canberra Press Gallery.

They socialise and joke together.

The Australian Liberals play up to the press gallery and try to curry favour with them.

It's totally the wrong strategy.

President Trump understands this.

He doesn't interact with the media.

Nor should PM Morrison.

The mainstream media is the enemy.

This is what mainstream media and The Left think of the silent majority.

Prime Minister take note - and act on it!

Call for Aust Govt to withdraw $43M Palestinian funding after terrorist Abbas rejects Trump peace plan

Screen Shot 2020-01-29 at 11.07.40 am

This morning I received a note from David Adler of the Australian Jewish Association:

There is an important strategic decision to make - the Palestinian Arabs have again summarily rejected a peace proposal.

Australia needs to consider whether it should continue funding those who reject peace and embrace terrorism.

AJA says no.

I in turn have written to DFAT asking for a comment, I'll let you know what DFAT says.

For a mate who has a battle on his hands after a lifetime on the durries!

This magnificent comparison of the cost of one packet of durries versus food comes from Launceston grandmother Judy Kerrison.

Cigarettes v Food...

Grandchild commented on how much cigarettes are, after watching someone purchase them.

So we made a challenge - smoking v eating!

The grandkids and I tried to purchase the most value for money “basic” food items and the most popular cigarette brand.

They were surprised at the amount of food you can buy for the same monetary value.

Cigarettes @ 56.95 pkt 40
Grocery’s @ 56.85 included breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

Must say I hope this exercise has made them aware of life’s choices - and not to take up this habit!
