Labor Party's thank you to Mike Kelly MP for his years of service to Australia.

--

Mike Kelly has served our nation in uniform and he has served his community in our national Parliament.

He's been struggling with health problems for some time and because of the heavy demands of servicing his large and diverse electorate, he has today announced his retirement.

As the Labor Member for Eden Monaro, Mike tirelessly served his local community and fought to deliver better infrastructure, better services and a better environment for all his constituents.

He stood shoulder to shoulder with the people of Eden Monaro as the area was devastated by last summer's terrible bushfires, and continues to be a staunch advocate for his community as people struggle to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.

We thank Mike for his many years of service to our nation, to our state, to the people of Eden Monaro and to the Labor Party.

From all of us here at Labor, we wish Mike and his family all the best for the future.

The Guardian reports Obama White House listened to Gillard tape - here's another one they should try

Turnbull's lefty site The Guardian carries this "story" today.

Barack Obama’s team watched Julia Gillard’s misogyny speech whenever they were “really annoyed” with Tony Abbott, one of the president’s senior advisers has revealed.

Ben Rhodes, the former deputy national security adviser, has also described how Obama “went way off the script” to blast the Abbott government for climate inaction during a visit to Brisbane for the G20 summit in 2014.

For his part, Rhodes described Abbott as being “tone deaf” on the climate issue in the lead-up to the Paris agreement and recalled the former prime minister as being “upset” about the US president’s forceful intervention on protecting the Great Barrier Reef.

The behind-the-scenes tension between Obama and Abbott is laid bare in the latest episode of A Rational Fear, a news and politics comedy podcast.

In an interview, Rhodes said he and others at the White House had regularly watched the 2012 video of Gillard declaring she would “not be lectured about sexism and misogyny” by Abbott.

“I will tell you that whenever we were really annoyed with Tony Abbott, we would watch the video of that speech by Julia Gillard,” Rhodes said.

“That speech got watched a lot in the Obama White House, let me just put it that way,” he added with a smile, but did not specify whether the president was one of the viewers.

ENDS

Here's another Gillard speech.

This one under oath to a Royal Commissioner.

Unfortunately for Ms Gillard she lied to him.

And I'm working to make sure she'll be brought before a court to answer for it.

Churchill also said, "“Never give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about.”

It's good advice.

The first night I sat in defamation lawyer Bruce Burke's office with Bob Kernohan I knew that the corruption in The AWU Scandal was an important matter for our country.

It is for you too, because it goes to the character of what it means to be Australian.

I will never give up.

Far too many people and institutions have surrendered to Julia Gillard.

News Limited did.

Fairfax did.

The Liberal Party did.

Tony Abbott did.

Victoria Police did.

Western Australia Police did.

And so have dozens of politicians to whom Dave McAlpine and I have written, or with whom we've met.

I know I've tested the patience - and character - of people I've admired.

And found them wanting.

The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions can intervene in my private prosecution at any point.

And it can choose to continue with it, or to withdraw the charges.

It applies a two-fold test to that decision.

Is the prosecution likely to result in a conviction?

Is the prosecution in the public interest?

Dave McAlpine and I along with plenty of others have been working on a range of measures better to inform the public of the gravity of this offending.

Time and again we've had doors closed in our faces.

I fully understand Ms Gillard's offending and because of that, I have a duty to bring the offending to the attention of authorities.

When those authorities fail in their duty, my resolve grows stronger.

Listen carefully to Ms Gillard, Ralph Mineif, Ray Neal and Ralph Blewitt.

Would you give up and let this matter pass through to the keeper?

I give you my word, I will never give up.

Every touch leaves its trace.

Greta the Climate Child bows to the inevitable and jumps on the Coronavirus bandwagon

It just gets way more press.

UNITED NATIONS - Climate activist Greta Thunberg is launching a campaign with a Danish foundation to help finance the U.N. childrens’ agency’s emergency program to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Thunberg said in a statement that “like the climate crisis, the coronavirus pandemic is a child-rights crisis” that will affect youngsters now and in the long-term, especially the most vulnerable.

She urged people everywhere “to step up and join me in support of UNICEF’s vital work to save children’s lives, to protect health and continue education.”
