More than ever before, the medical profession and the community we serve needs bold leadership from a strong and healthy AMA. I believe that we must act as the peak body of our profession, bringing all doctors and the community together and advocating strongly on issues that matter.
The AMA must be proactive and forward-looking. We must invest in people and capability so that we can be even more effective. Recent events have emphasised to us that we need to engage with our membership, our profession and the community in new ways in order to remain relevant.
The COVID-19 pandemic has dominated our lives and will continue to do so. There will be a critical need for a clear and independent voice for the profession and for health. At the same time, we must look to the long-term future and ensure we are ready to advocate for the necessary reforms to achieve lasting sustainability of our high-quality healthcare system.
I have a career-long history of active engagement and leadership within the AMA and in all aspects of my practice, including public hospitals, private practice and medical education. I stand for President with Dr Chris Moy, an experienced GP and AMA leader who is standing for Vice-President. We have the skills, broad experience and most importantly, deep passion for the profession to lead the AMA at this difficult time. If elected, we will work tirelessly to achieve the best possible outcomes for our profession and our patients.
