Under the new rule, Islamic poultry slaughter will be banned in France from July 2021.
Muslim leaders in France have criticized a recent decision to ban the slaughter of poultry in accordance with Islamic principles before the holy month of Ramadan.
A joint statement issued by the director of the Paris mosque Chemseddine Hafez, the director of the Lyon mosque Kamel Kaptane and the director of the Evry mosque Khalil Maroun, indicates that the circular from the French Ministry of Agriculture and ‘Food sends a negative message to the country’s large Muslim community.
Under the new rule, Islamic poultry slaughter will be banned in France from July 2021.
The three administrators expressed their concerns to the relevant ministry but received no concrete results, the joint statement said.
“These precautions are a serious obstacle preventing people from freely practicing their religion,” the statement read, adding that they plan to take the necessary legal steps to restore “fundamental rights.”
