Jane Caro has spent decades trying to persuade people to do things. Now she’s stepping in to try to get things done herself.

The prominent author, commentator (including as a columnist for this masthead), feminist and former advertising guru is running for a NSW Senate seat with the Reason Party in the coming federal election.

She’s long been a vocal and outspoken critic of governments and policymaking but says despite lots of voices being raised, “we’re heading in precisely the wrong direction on just about everything”.

“What worries me is we’re not going to be able to change the direction that we need on so many things if we have a progressive or more progressive House of Representatives and a reactionary and regressive Senate,” she told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

“I guess I’m at that point, as you can hear from the tone of my voice, where it’s time to get shit done.”
