ABC hipster travels to Redfern to find a YES voter
Thursday, 31 August 2023
It’s almost like a send up.
Lazy ABC diversity celebrity Jason Om, jumped in a car and travelled to the next suburb to find an Aboriginal woman who supports the Vanity Voice.
Trail blazing journalism - to the front line: more cafes than Aborigines in Redfern.
He tracked down an activist:
"We call Redfern the Black capital of Australia," Donna Ingram told 7.30. "I could get in trouble for saying that," she chuckled.
Not an elder, not a leader, but definitely an aunty, Ms Ingram has a long connection to Redfern, growing up around the area, and attending rallies there with her family.
"This is where I feel my cultural connections are."
The Wiradjuri woman told 7.30 she'll be voting Yes.
This is the problem with the ABC.
It sees the issue through the prism of the views of wealthy inner-suburban Aboriginal activists.
Perhaps Jason Om could get off his arse and head to Alice Springs or Wilcannia or Bourke to test the real issues.
They probably serve ‘cafe latte’ there too.
